Lift off your creativity using a new creative launch pad

I have been struggling creatively to write another chapter of my improvised fiction- Songs of Solomon- and have not been able to figure out why. That was until I watched this video on creativity last night. It was something that reshaped how I viewed my own creative process. It offered me insight on how not to put excess pressure on myself- which often works against the attempt to produce something creative- but to instead work with the very spirit of creativity that we have all been given. I hope that in this video you may find, like I have, a new and improved launch pad to lift your creativity off the ground.

Powerful Video on Creativity

This video is a straightforward display on the power of creativity. It has inspired me in a way that I hope you can take part in. Cause in truth we are all creative. If anyone has told you anything else(including yourself), they are lying- period. May this video encourage you to embrace, or continue to embrace, the content of your creative genius!

The Morning Sun
I shift in the morning sun
As it rises in rhythm with the raw and untampered
It's light lingers across the land
Almost like fingers across the sand

The Setting Sun
You can barely see it's sandy footprint

Before the tide takes it away

But before the sunlight is taken
From my visions way

And the night waves say

"wave goodbye"

I can feel it's mark
on my worlds' ways
As it captures my eyes...

Sunshines Effect on  Life Students
...it touches the many students
Walking along the many schools on life
Who are always late to class but always seem to pass
Yet it still walks over their attempts for a degrees
Of just trying to be
It steps on their MAJORS and MINORS
Of a struggling sounds played in major and minor keys
But that becomes the key
For now that the light has lingered on their learning
They can now learn to see
That through their life tuition is free
Their prepaved paths' of room and board is not
Thus they choose must carefully
I however I do not need such caution
Cause what I've got is a soul scholarship for a pathway That is prepaid to let me do what I love
Which is free
Unlike the loans for doing what I hate
Which within my hearts' budget would be much to great
Its' interest leaving my life in the Waverly hands of debt...

All before the sun could set
It's light washed away by the waves

Air Shakesphere: MJ and Will in a expectation collaboration.

Expectation is the root of all heartache.
 - William Shakespeare

You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.
.-  Michael Jordan
 Quote Notes #1.a
In the world of expectations, there are two types that rein supreme: Empty Expectations and Empowering Expectation. In this first Quotes Notes Post, we will be engaging and assessing what empty expectations are all about.

You may have heard the term "empty rhetoric." It is the term that they use for shady politicians and companies like BP; who have all this ideology without any integrity. These are people and companies that create hopes they do not plan to make happen. Empty expectations perform a similar service, but with a distinctly different product. For the key to unlocking an empty expectation is not by creating a hope that no one makes happen, but by creating a hope that simply can't happen. It is basically what would happen if a person, paralyzed from the neck down, was to attempt to get up and run a marathon right now; all due to a feeling in their legs that they thought they felt.

That extreme example seems to happen in our lives extremmmmely often; as we aim for these meaningless marathon-like attempts with our work, our relationships, and ourselves. We wake up and want everything we desire in life to happen now but do not have the current capacity to make it happen now; leading to nothing more than a notion without motion. When that happens to us enough, it begins to breed the anger, anxiety, and absolute heartache that the Shakespeare quote above is talking about. It also prevents the ability to expect the things that we can make happen much like what Jordans' quote above is stating.

"So what makes you such an expert on empty expectations?" Well to be honest, the reason I know about these expectation so well is because I have had them myself. When I was trying to launch my second business- Major Movements Association- it was like I wanted to move a mountain before I could budge a rock. I wanted to have the best website, the best events, and the most funding for our initiatives. The problem with all of that was this: I did not (Nor did I know how to) take the time to prepare my company, my team, or myself with the confidence and momentum needed to make that mountain move. But like a paralyzed person, who had just gained feeling in their legs, I attempted to do it anyway. All because I had this empty expectation that said I could get that Major Movement mountain moving at that exact moment. So when it did not move an inch- in terms of expectations that I had set over a period of a year- I moved on thinking that I was a failure.(I will be writing more about my mistake in my second venture in the next post of my daily series. I think I might call my daily post "Whats the Big Idea?". But I digress). For a while I even thought that failure was just who I was.

This is the trap that empty expectations invoke into our lives. They create a place where it seems as if all you can do is fail. That is why- if are to reach the goals we set- that we identify and eliminate the empty expectations in our lives. That is part of what these two incredible quotes are here to recognize. A simple, smart, and important need to understand that...

If expectations is something of which you have plenty
At their essence may they always be full; not empty

The Last Part of this weeks Quote Notes(Quote Notes 1.b) will be looking at these two quotes through the perspective of the second type of expectations- the empowering expectation. For an empowering expectation enables us to move towards our goals and dreams with an honest movementum. A movementum that is moving within you and I right now as you sit here reading the first ever Quote Notes of the week.

If you have an idea of any kind you have to listen to this!

I know that was a long post title, but it is the very point of this post. If anyone reading this has an idea on how to live your dream out (writing something, making a business, or fill in the blank_____) it is imperative that you watch this. It is a book summary of Seth Godins' book, "The Dip." If you are an Ideacentric person, you will love watching this! Let me know what you think about it!

Update: Wow Quote Notes Longer than expected

So remember when I said I was going to have those quotes notes daily? Well I was just joking! This first one has taken me way longer than I thought it would, and I only have a certain amount of time a day to post.  So I will instead be making those daily quote notes, weekly quote notes. They will be a presentation of empowering ideas through the top quotes on this blog a week. I plan to post them during the weekend.

Update: Now Introducing Quote Notes

If you scroll down this blog, you will eventually see a host of quotes. They are quotes from people such as Michael Jordan, Mahatma Gandhi, Helen Keller, and many others who have centered their lives around incredible ideas. But what I just realized today is that most people are NOT going to look at all of those quotes every time they enter this site due to a) The time that may take, and/or b) A lost of attention (this includes me). So what I have decided to do is to add a new selection of work to these blog called Quote Notes. Quotes Notes will be a weekly dissection of an empowering idea; using one to three of the famous quotes that appear on this blog. This should be an interesting, effective, and fun way to explore the ideas of great people. If this interests you, be sure to keep a lookout for the weekly Quote Notes!

The Green Light In The Sky Means GO

Their is only one way that you know you can grow
and that is to...

GO GO GO, and GO!
Go! Toward your passion
and please do make haste
Else the time your not going
Is gonna go to waste
Go! And jump off the cliff of your fears
To land on lands of the hopes that lay near
Go!And race pass the pain of the past
The last thing you want is to let that pain last
So if anything even tries
To make you stop or slow
Just seek the green light in the sky
and...
GO GO GO!
DON'T YOU SWEAT IT
JUST GO GET IT

The Power of an Unlimited Imagination

The poetic essay below is about the voice of the imagination outside of the limits of close-minded structure and stability that many try to force down it's throat.

What is this so called "structure" that people speak about?
This word that would fill my mind with so much doubt
But that was before I began to start seeing
The truth behind my unstructured being

There is this statement that many in my structural family have often presented to me as if it was fact. Many of my friends have also said these wonderful words to me. The statement is: "you need a structure." And whenever these words were said I often used to find myself smiling with traces of empathy, understanding, and utter annoyance stuck in my teeth. Empathy because I see the mix of fear warped within this fundamentally worldly wise advice. Understanding, because I do not doubt the very proof within this real world that can be presented to support this notion of necessity for this structure. And utter annoyance, because I did not wish to live in this particular real world, and thus did not deem that statement a wise one. For to wear that belief in the world I wished to live in would be like wearing a fur coat in the summer time. Despite is flashiness and form, it would provide no use other than to make me sweat stupidly. This flashiness, disguised as a fundamental factor to functioning well in this real world, has left the people who have never before been in this land of structure lost upon arrival.

I myself have been perplexed in this real world mystery. In fact, I was lost everyday I lived there; despite how long I had been apart of that "real world"- the land where socially acceptable structure symbolizes success. But what I found to be most difficult and perplexing during my time and travel in this structured place was the language barrier. A language barrier that was brought up to be a big issue every place and time that I traveled to on this structural terrain. A language of structure that would often invite segregation and self-denigration. For when I would step in it's food stores, I was told that I could not be served. I would sit-down in it's schools and be told that I could not be taught. I would make appointments at its hospitals to be told I can not be treated. But Why? Why is it that in this United States of Structure and Straight print paths that my desired cursive course could not be cared for? Why is it that I could not be educated by the "excellence" this world had produced? Why is it that I could not be feed by it's many faith affiliated foods?  I attempted to ask these questions, but my inability to speak structure talk always prevented my publicized perspectives from reaching it's intended audience.

As I roamed around this real world, lost in it's lunacy , I begin to hear whispers of a rumor. Interestingly enough, the rumor reflected an untaught language that I seemed able to receive, recognize, and reply to. The rumor stated, that there was a rebel state in the United States of Structure that is seceding from this preposterous place. It too did not speak structure fluently enough to fully follow it. It was said to be a land of the non-linear, a place of positive passions, and a state of sanctuary for those who stood outside of the structural standard. And outside of this standard, I stood. And so, stranded in a state of structure with know where else to go, I journeyed to this state to find that it was right where I wanted to be in the first place.

For the people there spoke my language
Of soulful stories and songs.
They even ask that I tell my tale
As they listen and sing a along.

So I do
And it hits me the minute I that I start
That this language that I've never spoken
Has rained down a truth in my heart

That beyond the United States of Structure
Was within every boy and girl
A desire and fire being fueled
     Not in the wrong time
            But in the wrong world

And so with me wrapped tightly in this states embrace, this lone state successfully seceded, and soon become a sovereign country. The country called itself the United States of Imagination. It became a land formed from ideas, agreements, and inspiration. It became a place where big ideas are implemented instead of being interfered with by talk of their irrationality. It became a country that I now call myself an active citizen of, and an active citizen of this country I stall remain

Yet I do visit my family and old friends sometimes. When I do they always ask me how life is out there in the "exotic" United State of ones Imagination; to which I look at them and smile, revealing a hint of understanding, empathy, and peace in my teeth. Peace in the fact that I have found my place in time, just as they have found theirs. Peace that I can finally love these people without liking this place.  And...

Peace in the position that from the start
That our lands stand together
But are worlds apart

My Concern to Learn

My biggest concern in college is that my learning will end there.
That the environment which has provided me a place to think, feel, and grow will be taken from me; leaving no educational or spiritual  bread crumbs for me to feed the soul and mind with once I've left. To not be able to stop and look up to the sky, to not be able to skip class and cruise along the pathway of my inner paradise, and to not be able to spend days immersed in inspirational and insightful ideas would be a life of sire madness. For the business of ideas is the profession that I have prepared myself for. I have studied it, practiced it, and proclaimed it in such a way that the very lifestyle has seemed to develop a voice of its own. A voice which guides my own inner voyage on it's soulful sea.

My biggest concern in college is that learning will end there
I believe that a purpose which college serves is to help see what we want to do in the supposed "real world". Yet I find that it's very activity of searching is what I want to do as a career. That the lifestyle of which I can address the struggles that plague us is such a magnificent thing. Why can't I live a life of which I investigate  ideas? In a world where so much is being lost, where economic downturn is drowning people in doubt and uncertainty, is not new ideas something that we need the most? Is a career in spreading ideas not something that can pay the bills? Somehow it will be. It must be. At least for me.

My biggest concern in my career is that learning will end there
So than what is to become of these ideas. Do they get tossed in the trash as nice thoughts; recycle into my old college dump sites, never to be dug up in desperate times such as these. Do I enter this world and its' "workforce?" What is it that this workforce is working for ultimately I don't know. All that know is that it is not the work for me. One does not have to break there leg to know it's not something good to do. One does have to get into a car crash to know that it is something that should be avoided. So I have avoided that end will everything I've possessed. Yet I feel this end approaching, as the sun rises out of its' sleep.

My biggest concern with my career is that the learning ends here.
It is my senior year in college. After this year I have to figure out where I want to go from here. Yet what I find myself doing here is where I want to go. As I sit here at 5:53, woken up by thoughts and ideas that inject themselves into me life a serum to my soul. A serum which stops the infection of pointless pursuits from taking place. A serum that has shutdown my survival instinct, and stimulated my thrival instincts. For my desire to thrive is not a desire to complete a calling, but a desire to commit to a calling. A calling that I find no degree for, no internship that invites it, no job that gestures toward it.

A calling that has captured me from when I was child.
A calling filling my life with surprise and smiles.
A calling which enables my spirit to speak.
A calling which puts joy in arms reach.
A calling which enters the center of self
And creates a world around me and everyone else
That give me a chance to advance my being
To building the things that my soul has been seeing
A calling that is of the highest concern
A calling for ideas...
Which allows me...
To learn

Take control of your life

Listen to the voice
That gives you a choice
To tackle tough tasks now and here

For by following it
You'll see bit by bit
That your pathway will soon become clear

But drown out that voice
With the disastrous choice
Of avoiding the task at hand

And you will submit
The willpower which permits
A chance to take life at your command

Surfing to Success: Shout out to Burgh Cards' Ricci Minella

In the rip tide waters of the big business world, the start-up is similar to a surfer. Riding the roughest of waves with a surfboard of resolve, these entrepreneurial surfers paddle out in rain or shine when summoned by the call of the waves; despite the chance a disastrous wipe-out. The ones who survive in this world are able to catch a wave that takes them all the way back into the shores of success. However, in this world the best surfers are not always the one who happen to hit the biggest waves. Sometimes it is the one that paddles out when their seems to be no waves at all, only to be the first to catch the big one when it comes. That is the type of entrepreneurial surfer that Ricci Minella is...

Ricci Minella is the CEO of D.E. Premier Products. This company is out on a mission to offer all in Pittsburgh more burgh for their buck with their all-star product- The Burgh Card. For those in Pittsburgh, especially college students,  it would be wise to get this card. It offers discounts at restaurants, retail, and entertainment store in Oakland, Downtown, and Southside locations. But that is not the thing that entices me to buy the card. The thing that makes me a holder of these dynamic discount card is the events it provides discounts at.

About two months back, I went to the a Rock event that the Burgh Card sponsored at the Hard Rock. Not only were the bands amazing, but I got 15% percent off everything I bought there! To top it off, for the events grand finally, in walks the CEO of D.E. Premier Product with the band A.E. Honick and the SoulShakedown. What a way to finish! This guys rocked the house out as Ricci rolled out his own signature song- The Sun Sets.  That was a night to remember.

...As Ricci paddles out with a Burgh Card surfboard and a acoustic guitar, many from a distance may wonder why he's out there in the big blue. But watch carefully my friends, because this CEO is soon to catch a tidal wave that will save your bucks in the big burgh while jamming to a sound like you've never heard. So stay surfing Ricci, cause your in for one hell of a ride!

A Timeout for the Timeless

Originally when I started writing this, I was going to talk about the fruitless notion of taking a ,"timeout", and how it plays against our personal growth in real life situations. But instead I want to talk about a type of timeout that we all need to take. For when you take time out of your schedule for people that matter, it can never be fruitless. In fact, if they are truly valuable people in your life, you may find it to be fulfilling in ways you never imagined. Today was a perfect example of this.

Despite having work to do, I decided to have dinner with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while. She is someone who, from day one, has always been a supporter of my dreams and goals . She is also someone who with angelic ease is able to remind me about one of the biggest gifts I've been given in this life- people like her. And it is people like that, who truly love and care about you, that are worth making time for; due to the sheer fact that they are timeless treasures. Treasures that will provide a positive presence for you to be around. Treasures that will give you respect regardless of where you are in life. Treasures that deserve to be treasured.

How does this apply to time management?

When you are planning out how to use your time, it can be easy to forget the factors that are timeless essentials. The things in life that add seasoning and spirit to the activities you are engaging in. These are things that you can not put a price on, a label on, or a time on. These are what I call timeless treasures. More on this topic to come.

24/7 series: Day 1- The lie of 24 hours:

The scientific fact that there are 24 hours in a day is absolutely irrelevant. It is irrelevant to the entrepreneur who has accomplished 10 things on their to-do list, only to have the other 20 things lost in the work mix. It is irrelevant to the mother who works a 9 -5 and then has to take care of her kids when she gets home. It is irrelevant to the college student who slacked off during the semester with the impression that they have "all the time in the world," only to go cram crazy during finals week. Where do these 24 hour days exist to get things done? For anyone actually living here with the rest of us, I have some bad news. You don't have 24 hours to accomplish anything. Here, let me prove it to you.

For those who have gone from having all the time in world to having none, this simple test will shred some light on where your time goes. Here is all you have to do:

1. Pull out a piece of paper and write the number 24 at the top.

2. Make a list of things that you do in a day. Be sure to include everything that is involved in your day. This is not a list of the things that you would prefer or want to do, but want you actually and authentically do in a day.

3. Make a list of the things that you should do in a day.  These are things that are important for you to get done, but aren't life threatening if you do not do them.

4. Make a list of things that you want to do in a normal day.

5. How long does each thing on those three lists take? Look at each thing and jot down how long each activity takes.

6. Now add up the amount of time in the first list and minus it from 24.

7. Repeat in the other 2 lists.

That 7 step process should shred some light between the time you thought you had, the time you actually have, and what you can actually do in that time. It sure opened my eyes. I realized rather quickly that I don't have "all the time in the world" as I always used to think. With this understanding I was able to move on to the next phrase of developing my time management.

Time is Money: Killing two birds with one stone

For years I have been handling my finances the way a big dogs deal with food in front of their faces. The minute money is put on my plate I eat it all away and then moan for more. Similarly, time management has been close to non-existent in my life. I may be on time for a week or so before I trip into the ever present hole in my way called "distraction and diversion". So whenever I heard the saying, "time is money", you can imagine my reaction. It looked something like the cartoons where character A turns away from character B for a second only to find the smoky outline of character B when they turned back around. Just dealing with time or money alone was enough to send me to hills, but to deal with both would sent me away from this planet.

However, I now realize that this phrase "time is money", may meet me half way in potentially mastering both of them. Because what the statement reveals is that if I just work on one of those things, then I will also develop the other. So I have decided to test this old saying to see if it is really true or not. I have chosen to work on my time management for the next 31 days. I will document it once everyday in what will be called "The 24/7 Series"(24 + 7 = 31 for those who, like me, aren't math people). You can find this update in my posting schedule.

At the end of this series we shall out if time really is indeed money. I will start this series tomorrow. If you are someone who struggles with one or both of these to crucial life skills, be sure to stay in-tuned with the series as it progresses.

Role Playing

I spent my life as an actor
Until I found the right role to play
But now that role
Has united with my soul
Giving birth to whom I am today

I spent my life as an artist
Drawing other peoples' original designs
But now I've discovered
Besides through me there's no other
Work that's as originally mine

I spent my life as a writer
Copying others' great words
But now I can see
That what is in me
Are great words that have never been heard

For when role play and acting starts spreading around
When artist work for everyone else
I'll forever remember as I write this poem
The power in the role of myself

Journey to Shore

About 5 fingers...
And a million miles below the sea
I looked up and saw a way to set my mind free
So I floated out of the bottom-less hole of watery despair
That I realized only because of me was still there

Up I floated
Past the self-analytical seaweed
And watched those who were tangled in them beg and plead
For someone or something to get them what they thought they would need
So that they can rise up and succeed

But because no one could do the requested deed
The fishes became the only success they would feed
As they drowned
And into to bottomless hole they went down
But up I still floated through the present here and the now

Up and up and up I went
Past a sinking ship
Where I could see all the devastating dents
And the sails that had been ripped
Yet three passengers still held on
With a resilient grip
Through the flow of the water out flowed of each of there thoughts
All with similar symptoms as if it was a disease that they all had caught
The first one said:
"The ship has sunk because of me"
"I don't deserve to be above the water where I'm free"
"So I will go down with the ship that I helped build"
"May this self-fulfilling prophesy be fulfilled
And with that last thought the first one died
Without giving "moving on" a good try

That was when the second one said:
"Dis damn ship sunk because of them!"
"I am surrounded by stupidity again and again"
"But what can I do, their all my friends"
And on that thought he died
With a self-made dead end

The third one then looked at his friends all confused
And said "why would you just give up like that and lose"
Oh no I refuse to go down that way to
Yet he took no real action
So death
Is what he decided to do

Upon getting closer to the ship began to see
That the three passengers who had drowned looked exactly like me
So I swam over to them
Making sure their eyes had gratefully closed
And then up above them I rose

And up and up I went with a new found purpose
Until suddenly it seemed I shot up and smashed through the surface
And for about minute my mouth touched the clarity-filled air
Until the waves of my will crashed into me saying "you can't stop here"
"You absolutely can not rest
Until you've reached successes shore
You've yet still given it your very best
But your almost there
Just a little more"
And with a push of those waves off I began
